![]() As the world undergoes a profound transition toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the carbon credit market has emerged as one of the most important economic instruments to drive green growth. Many countries have already established or are preparing to launch emissions trading systems (ETS). In Vietnam, the domestic carbon market is expected to come into official operation in the coming years, in line with the Government’s roadmap under Decree No. 119/2025/ND-CP dated June 9, 2025. ![]() |

Definition:
A carbon credit is a certificate representing one metric ton of CO₂ (or equivalent greenhouse gases) that has been reduced or removed from the atmosphere.
Carbon credits can be:
Issued when a project reduces or absorbs CO₂ (e.g., afforestation, renewable energy adoption, improved production processes, etc.);
Traded between organizations and businesses to offset their own emissions.
