Despite many fluctuations in the economy from the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, the general market is forecast to face many difficulties. However, according to our reports, the market value of Vietnam's F&B industry in 2023 will be expected to increase by 18% compared to 2022, reaching a revenue milestone of about VND 720.3 trillion.
After two years of overcoming due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the F&B market in 2022 has regained growth, even surpassing pre-Covid-19 levels. Specifically, in 2022, Vietnam recorded about 338.6 thousand restaurants with an annual growth rate of about 2% from 2016 to 2022. The revenue of the F&B industry also rose by an impressive growth rate of 39% compared to 2021, reaching nearly VND 610 trillion, surpassing the time before the epidemic in 2019.
With a strong recovery and growth, the F&B industry is predicted to continue to grow at a steady pace and is expected to reach a value of nearly VND 940 trillion (USD 39 million) by 2026.
In terms of the revenue structure of F&B services across the country in 2022, there was a strong difference in revenue when 95% of sales came from local food services while only 5% of the market came from food service chains. The biggest reason is that the prices of food and drinks at restaurant chains are still quite high compared to the income of Vietnamese people.
However, this does not mean that food service chains are not growing. Although accounting for a small market share in its revenue of the food industry, with the explosion of the middle class in the Vietnam market (26% of the population is middle class in 2026), the food chain market will grow rapidly, especially in tier-one cities.

After the pandemic, the biggest change in customers is that the habit of ordering food online and home delivery has become explosive. Although according to the forecast, the food market will still return to normal operations, diners now have higher quality requirements, and expect to receive better experiences and more valuable services. This is a common mandatory trend in the culinary industry, so F&B units must constantly improve to serve the increasing demands of the consumer market.
