Export of wood pellets in the first 11 months of 2022 increased by 79.4%

Export of wood pellets is the item with the highest growth rate in the first 11 months of 2022 with a total value of about US$682.2 million, up 79.4% over the same period in 2021.

The Agency of Foreign Trade estimated that the export of wood and wood products in the fourth quarter of 2022 reached $3.6 billion, down 3.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. In which, the export of wood products was estimated at $2.5 billion, down 5.3% over the same period last year.


In general, in 2022, the export value of wood and wood products is estimated at $15.8 billion, up 7% compared to 2021. In which, the export value of wood products is estimated at 10.9 billion USD, down 1.3%.


Wooden furniture has always been the main export item with a high proportion, the export value of this item in the first 11 months of 2022 reached US$9.2 billion, up 1.6% over the same period in 2021.


This item is mainly exported to the US market, however, due to high inflation causing consumers to tighten spending, the overall export value of wooden furniture products increased only slightly in the first 11 months of 2022 (in the first 11 months of 2021, the export value of wooden furniture increased by 17.8%).


While the growth rate of wooden furniture exports slowed down, the export of wood chips and wood pellets had a high growth rate in the first 11 months of 2022.


The export value of wood chips reached $2.46 billion, up 54.4% over the same period in 2021; wood pellets reached $682.2 million, up 79.4%. According to the Agency of Foreign Trade, the increasing scarcity of energy in many countries around the world is the main factor promoting the good growth of Vietnam's exports of wood chips and pellets.


In 2023, the General Department of Forestry sets a target of 5-5.5% growth rate of forestry production value; forest product export turnover reached $17.5 billion, up 3.5% compared to 2022.
