SUMMARY
 
Vietnam’s population in 2021 was estimated at 98.5 million persons, increasing by 923.5 thousand persons, equivalent to an increase of 0.95% compared to that in 2020. Of which, the urban population was 36.6 million persons, accounting for 37.1%; the rural population was 61.9 million persons, making up 62.9%; the male and female population was 49.1 million persons and 49.4 million persons, respectively with the corresponding rate of 49.8% and 50.2%. The sex ratio of the population in 2021 was 99.4 males per 100 females.
 
The total fertility rate in 2021 reached 2.11 children per woman. The gender ratio at birth was 112.0 male births per 100 female births; the crude birth rate was 15.7‰; the crude death rate was 6.4‰. The infant mortality rate (infant deaths per 1,000 live births) was 13.6‰. The under five mortality rate (under five deaths per 1,000 live births) was 20.5‰. The national average life expectancy at birth in 2021 was 73.6 years old, of which the male average life expectancy at birth was 71.1 years old and the female’ figure was 76.4 years old.
