SUMMARY
The domestic economy in May recorded the following positive points: The industrial production index and export value of many commodity groups improved compared to the previous month. A number of real estate projects continue to be "removed" from legal issues and restarted. In particular, projects of large enterprises have been prioritized to be solved in order to prevent chain difficulties.
However, the economic situation is generally facing many difficulties and potential risks and challenges. Although the production situation in May slightly increased compared to the previous month, was still lower than in the same period last year. Exports in the month also improved compared to the previous month, but the groups of high-value goods still fell sharply over the same period.
The most worrying problem is the problem of non-performing loans & potential non-performing loans in the banking system. Specifically, the total bad debt of 29 commercial banks increased by VND34 trillion in Q1. If VAMC and SCB's NPL are included, the NPL ratio of the whole system can be over 3.04%. Besides the case of SCB, the system also has NVB and Pvcombank whose NPL ratio including VAMC is alarming and their bad debt exceeds equity.
