SUMMARY
Seafood exports show signs of improvement but growth is still slow. The growth in the quarter was thanks to the positive increase in demand from some main markets such as the US, China, and Australia, which increased by 12-14% yoy. In addition, Vietnam's seafood market share in the total imports of the US and Korea in 2M-2024 both increased significantly.
Compared to the same period, the export value of shrimp and tuna recorded a more positive increase; Squid & octopus increased weakly; except for pangasius which still decreased by 2.5%.
The average export price of some seafood products in the quarter increased compared to the end of 2023 but is still low.
Outlook: Vietnam's seafood exports are expected to continue to improve shortly, but the recovery momentum may not be strong. It is expected that after the International Seafood Fairs in the US, EU, and Japan, the number of orders for businesses will be brighter and export prices will gradually improve. However, the level of recovery may be hindered by the still weak demand of markets such as the US, EU, and ASEAN, especially the pressure of price competition among exporting countries.
