SUMMARY
 
In May 2023, the industry's production continued to increase for the third consecutive month, reaching 11.8 million tons, up 4.5% over the previous month and up 5.3% over the same period in 2022. Factories continued to maintain high capacity because the average domestic consumption in March & April was relatively more positive than in previous months. The export of finished cement in the month has improved. However, domestic consumption in May suddenly dropped sharply compared to 2 months ago.
 
Accumulated 5M/2023, total production output still decreased by 4.0%, domestic consumption decreased by 8.6%, and export decreased by 16.1% over the same period in 2022. In particular, clinker export volume decreased by 30.4%, but cement still increased slightly by 1.3% over the same period in 2022 (especially strongly in May).
 
Although the output situation has improved, cement businesses still face many difficulties: many operating costs increase, but high competitive pressure makes it difficult for businesses to increase selling prices. In addition, from the beginning of June until now, enterprises in the industry have also faced new challenges: lack of electricity and rising electricity prices.
