SUMMARY
 
In April 2023, the steel industry continued to have positive changes, but the recovery level was still not significant. In the context of still weak demand, increasing competitive pressure from China's export steel, and the average export price in April increased by 22.8% compared to the average in January, but still low by about 20% in the same period last year. Production activity is still increasing gradually month by month.
 
Regarding exports, steel production in April increased by 11.4% compared to the previous month mainly thanks to a good increase in exports to the EU. Meanwhile, demand from some other markets has improved, but this level is only equivalent to the same period last year.
 
Domestic consumption remains low. Consumption in April recorded a decrease of 11.3% compared to the previous month. This is also the month with the second lowest steel consumption since September 2021.
