SUMMARY
 
The total output of harvested & exploited seafood in 4M/2023 reached 2.64 million tons, up 1.2% over the same period last year. Especially in April, shrimp production increased by over 60% compared to the previous month.
 
Unlike previous expectations, seafood exports in April slowed down after a good recovery last month. Export value in April decreased by 3.1% compared to the previous month and decreased by 33.7% compared to the same period last year. Demand from most major markets has leveled off. In which, there were some major markets that fell sharply such as Japan, the EU, and Korea (down 10-22% compared to the previous month).
 
In April 2023, pangasius was still the item that continued to decline the most, which was contrary to the expectation of recovery thanks to the advantage of price. Shrimp is the commodity with the most positive signal in the month. Tuna exports decreased by 6.5% compared to the previous month, and squid & octopus equivalent last month.
