SUMMARY
 
In 2022, the demand and price of seafood of all kinds increased sharply 1H-2022.  However, the demand slows down, and the price also gradually decreases in 2H-2022. Vietnam's seafood industry has had a remarkable year of recovery and growth, despite unfavorable developments since September.
 
Accordingly, the domestic seafood supply gradually recovered in the first 5 months of 2022 and stabilized at a high level after that. Total exploitation and farming output reached 9.03 million tons, up 2.7% over the same period in 2021. However, seafood exports gradually decelerated from September 2022, when the demand for imports from all markets was weak.
 
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, the export target for 2023 is about US$10 billion (down 8.5% compared to the same period in 2021). The business situation of enterprises will be more difficult than in 2022. Especially pressure on selling price & profit margin is also a challenge for seafood exporters in general, in the context of expected high-interest rates.
