[VI] CEMENT INDUSTRY REPORT 2022 & OUTLOOK 2023

SUMMARY

The domestic cement market continues to be fiercely competitive due to oversupply compared to demand. The imbalance of local supply and demand between regions has increased transportation and logistics costs, which has been a longstanding issue. In 2022, the domestic sale was slow, exports decreased sharply, and the entire industry’s inventory increased. In addition, input fuel costs have also increased (especially in the first half of the year), but selling prices have not increased correspondingly, making it difficult for businesses.

According to Vietdata's assessment, the overall export prospect of the industry is also difficult to be optimistic about because the two big markets China and the Philippines are still facing many difficulties; although the markets in Bangladesh and Malaysia are positive, they are unlikely to compensate. Moreover, as of January 1, 2023, Vietnam will increase the export tax on clinker from 5% to 10%, which could further decrease clinker exports compared to 2021.
