VIETNAM MACRO AND INDUSTRY REPORT - 06/2021

SUMMARY

According to the macro data for the first 5 months of 2021 just announced by GSO, the general picture of Vietnam's economy is still "bright", although it is not denied that there are certain impacts of the current epidemic situation to 1 year. In addition, the domestic capital market in general, and the stock market, in particular, continued to record positive growth in both index and liquidity in May. Even, in Vietnam all three credit rating agencies including Moody's, S&P and Fitch simultaneously raised the outlook to Positive.

However, we believe that the macro data in May still do not fully show the "level of impact" of the epidemic on the whole economy. Negative effects of the shutdown of factories in some industrial zones in some northern provinces, travel restrictions and/or social distancing measures in Hanoi and some other provinces; Especially, the epidemic situation is complicated in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City is likely to be more evident in the industrial production, retail sales, and consumption figures for at least the next 1-2 months.
