VIETNAM MACRO AND INDUSTRY REPORT - 03/2021

SUMMARY

As usual, last February (the month of the Lunar New Year) is the peak season for shopping and travel. However, in the country, the COVID-19 epidemic re-emerged in many localities, and some provinces and cities had to have local social distancing. However, according to the economic data in February just released by GSO, there are many "bright spots" and encouraging. The index of industrial production, export turnover, and retail sales of goods all had higher increases than that of 2M/2020. FDI disbursement also recorded a slight increase over the same period last year. The number of enterprises and newly registered capital increased.

However, the most worrying point is still the number of enterprises suspending and dissolving their business continues to increase. In addition, the continuous "blocking" of trading orders on the HSX and proposals for solutions to this situation were also highlighted in the financial market during the month.
