Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that wood chip exports in the first 7 months of 2023 will reach 1.1 billion USD, while pellet exports will reach 380 million USD.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the beginning of the third quarter of 2023, Vietnam's wood export situation has shown positive signs of recovery, when the export turnover of forest products in September 2023 reached over 1. 28 billion USD, an increase of 7.3% after a long period of decline... Thereby, the decrease in forest product exports has been reduced to 20.6%, with a value of 10.44 billion USD in the first 9 months of 2023.
Export Wood pellets and chips are a bright spot in forest product exports. Mr. Thang Van Thong, Chairman of the Vietnam Wood Chip Association (Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association), said that businesses in the industry are also receiving more positive interactions from purchasing partners. Some businesses with new orders have begun to organize workers to work overtime again or recruit more workers.
Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that wood chip exports in the first 7 months of 2023 will reach 1.1 billion USD, while pellet exports will reach 380 million USD.
After a period of hot growth in the second half of 2022, in the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam's average pellet export price has decreased by nearly 3%, to approximately 157 USD/ton.
Korea and Japan are the two import markets for the majority of Vietnam's tablets. The export volume and turnover of this product to the above two countries have always accounted for nearly 100% of the total export volume and value from Vietnam from all markets during the period from 2019 to the present.
In the first 6 months of 2023, Japan imported more than 1.16 million tons of pellets, worth more than 195 million USD, an increase of 5.65% in volume and 28.88% in value compared to the same period in 2022. During the same period, Korea imported more than 840,000 tons of pellets, worth nearly 116 million USD, down more than 33% in volume and nearly 43% in value compared to the same period in 2022. For wood chips, China and Japan are the two largest import markets for this product from Vietnam. The volume and export value of wood chips to these two markets account for nearly 95% of the total export volume and value from Vietnam to all markets in 2022 and more than 90% in the first 6 months of 2023.
Export turnover to China always accounts for around 60% of total export turnover. However, demand in the Chinese market will decrease sharply in 2023 and the Japanese market will also decline slightly, leading to a decrease in export wood chip prices.
According to the Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association, forest product exports to the Japanese and Chinese markets are mainly due to increased export prices of wood chips and pellets.
Mr. Thang Van Thong was also happy to say that, after the direction of the Prime Minister, thanks to the drastic intervention of the Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Taxation, and local tax departments, wood industry enterprises (mainly in the field of wood chip and pellet processing sector) has received a refund of 2,000 billion VND in value-added tax (VAT). This will be a capital flow to serve the production and business activities of the enterprise in the coming time and is very important in the context that the wood industry is facing many difficulties due to limited orders.
"With the refund of 2,000 billion VND in tax money, businesses in the wood industry will have capital flow to serve production and business activities," Mr. Thong shared.
