Export of wood chips and pellets is expected to continue to increase strongly in the coming time

Demand for wood chips and pellets is increasing, because of countries' commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and conflicts between Russia and Ukraine.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the structure of exported wood and wood products in 2022, wood chips and wood pellets have a strong increase in export proportion.

In which, the export value of wood chips reached USD2.7 billion, up nearly 55% compared to 2021, the export proportion of this item accounted for 16.8% of the total export value of wood and wood products.

Wood pellets reached USD778.5 million, an increase of 83.6% compared to 2021, the proportion accounting for 4.8%, an increase of 2 percentage points compared to 2021.

Currently, in the world market, the demand for wood chips and wood pellets is increasing, because of the commitment of countries to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including the replacement of fossil fuel sources with biological sources such as wood pellets in the future, leading to increasing demand for wood pellets.

Besides, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine forced EU countries to find alternative sources of gas from Russia. This is a great opportunity for Vietnam's export of wood chips and pellets in the coming time.

In the structure of wood products and wood products, wooden furniture is always an export item with a high proportion. In the first months of 2022, the export value of this commodity group still grew well when the epidemic situation subsided. But the impact of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine caused a sharp drop in consumer demand and investment.

Therefore, the export value of wooden furniture in 2022 reached $9.96 billion, down 0.4% compared to 2021 (compared to an increase of 16.1% in 2021 compared to 2020).

Wooden furniture is a key export item of the wood industry, which brings high-added value to the wood industry. However, the difficulties of the global economy are expected to last until 2023, so the export of wooden furniture will face many difficulties.
