SUMMARY:

4M 2026: The global wood and furniture market remained weak and increasingly fragmented. Demand for imported wooden furniture continued to soften, with the United States recording a sharp decline of 24.8% YoY due to subdued residential furniture consumption. Non-U.S. markets exhibited mixed performance, albeit at smaller scales.

Vietnam continued to gain market share in the U.S., reaching 48.6%. Vietnam’s wooden furniture exports declined marginally by 1.4% YoY, outperforming China (-6.5% YoY) and other major exporters, which recorded contractions of 7–14% YoY.

5M 2026: Vietnam’s wood production and exports maintained positive growth momentum. The industry’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 9–12% YoY. Export turnover reached USD 7.02 billion, up 2.9% YoY, primarily driven by wood chips, panels, pellets, and wooden-frame chairs. However, several wooden furniture categories declined significantly, ranging from 7% to 26% YoY. Vietnam’s market share in the U.S. further expanded to 49.6%. Domestic raw material supply reached 8.3 million cubic meters, up 8.4% YoY.

2H 2026 Outlook: Export performance is expected to improve modestly, supported by orders from China, Japan, the EU, and selected niche markets. However, profit margins are likely to face continued pressure from rising input costs, logistics expenses, interest rates, and compliance-related costs. Policy risks from the United States, Europe, and Canada remain elevated, particularly in the form of tariff measures, EUDR requirements, and trade remedy investigations.
