SUMMARY
In July 2023, the steel industry recorded some positive signals as follows: Production of the whole industry continued to recover from the beginning of Q2. Compared to the same period last year, manufacturing output in the month increased by 20.4%, and exports of the whole industry increased by 65%, which is quite high level ever. The driving force for the increase in exports in the month was mainly due to demand from ASEAN and Brazil.
In terms of consumption by product line, HRC was the most positive, reaching 638 thousand tons (even about 7.4% higher than the average for the period from October 2021 to June 2022. For steel pipe, exports increased positively, and domestic sales reached the highest level of the year so far.
However, the challenge of Vietnam's steel industry in general and steel enterprises in particular is still huge. Vietnam Steel faces great competitive pressure with China Steel in both domestic and export markets. In addition, the import demand of some markets such as ASEAN is still unstable and there is a tendency to protect domestic production in some countries.
