SUMMARY
 
2023: The Steel industry gradually recovered this year. The production and export situation is positive. Domestic consumption increases gradually each quarter. Domestic and export steel selling prices are both lower than last year, but closely follow input material prices, so they have little impact on enterprise profit margins. Specifically:
 
+ Total production output of crude iron and steel/rolled steel/angle bar steel reached 44.6 million tons, up 4.1% over the same period.
 
+ Total exports increased by 32.6% over the same period. Output exported to many markets increased, except ASEAN. Meanwhile, total domestic consumption is estimated to decrease by 12.5% over the same period but increase each quarter.
 
+ The average export price decreased by 21% over the same period. Domestic selling prices sometimes decreased by 21% compared to the high in April 2022, and are currently still about 5% lower than at the beginning of the year.
 
OUTLOOK: Following the recovery from Q4-23, the steel industry outlook is expected to continue to recover in 2024, but it will be difficult to make a breakthrough. The recovery of the steel industry is expected to be more evident in the second half of 2024 when bottlenecks in the real estate industry are gradually removed.
