SUMMARY
The main focus of the seafood industry in Q3/2023 is that export value is still lower than in the same period last year, but the situation is still in a positive recovery trend. The supply of raw fish and shrimp is still positive (no shortage as previously feared). Pangasius export prices continued to decrease, while shrimp export prices inched up.
Q3/2023: The industry's export value continues to recover, reaching $2.46 billion, up 6% compared to the previous quarter. The growth driver in the quarter was due to improved import demand from the US, EU, and South Korea, and Vietnamese seafood enterprises exploited a number of new markets. In addition, exports of most major types of seafood increased compared to the previous quarter.
Cumulatively in 3Q/2023, seafood exports reached $6.6 billion USD, down 22% over the same period. In particular, pangasius is still the export product with the deepest decline in the industry, down 31.3%, shrimp down 26%, tuna down 24%, and squid/octopus down 14% over the same period.
OUTLOOK: Seafood exports in Q4 are expected to continue to increase by about 8% compared to Q3. Of which, pangasius is expected to increase by 6.3%, shrimp increase by 1%, and squid/octopus increase by 15% compared to Q3.
