SUMMARY
In the first seven months of 2025, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached around USD 6.xx billion, up 14.2%yoy. Shrimp recorded the strongest growth at 21%; pangasius rose 8%; squid and octopus increased 13%; while tuna declined by 5%.
In July 2025, seafood exports amounted to nearly USD 972 million (+7% MoM, +6% yoy). However, the growth momentum has begun to decelerate as shrimp shipments stagnated for the second consecutive month and pangasius exports remained flat.
- Growth drivers: The main impetus came from China, with robust demand for shrimp, squid/octopus, and crab, although pangasius declined for the third straight month. Exports to the EU, South Korea, and ASEAN also maintained positive momentum.
- By contrast, exports to the U.S. fell due to the combined impact of anti-dumping and countervailing duties (particularly on shrimp), along with elevated inventories following heavy stockpiling in Q2. Meanwhile, Japan and Australia started to weaken as domestic consumption slowed.
Outlook: Export performance in the coming months will be supported by:
- Sustained demand from China, the EU, and ASEAN
Rising consumption of premium products such as lobster and value-added/processed seafood
Vietnam’s continued advantages under trade agreements including EVFTA, CPTPP, and UKVFTA...
