SUMMARY
The main focus of the seafood industry in July was that the export situation of the whole industry remained low and did not change much compared to the previous month. The supply of some types of farmed seafood (such as pangasius, and white leg shrimp) started to decrease as previously forecast. Export prices continue to fall.
Specifically, total seafood exports in July 2023 reached USD779 million, up 1.4% over the previous month and down 17.3% over the same period. In which, the increase compared to the previous month was mainly due to tuna and squid & octopus (up 18% and 12.4% compared to the previous month). Meanwhile, shrimp and pangasius continued to decline.
Accumulated 7M/2023, seafood export reached USD4.93 billion, down 25.6% over the same period. In which, shrimp decreased by 29.6%, pangasius by 36.9%, tuna by 28.2%, and squid/octopus by 15.5% over the same period. In general, the export situation has improved in recent months, but the recovery is still slow.
