[VI] RUBBER INDUSTRY REPORT - SEPTEMBER 2023

SUMMARY

In August 2023, rubber prices at major Asian exchanges fluctuated strongly during the month. The main trend is a decrease in the first half of August and a strong increase again from the second half of August until now.

Rubber export output in August continued to be positive, reaching 222.48 thousand tons, up 1.45% over the same period. However, the average export price recorded in the month still decreased by 1.16% compared to the previous month due to contracts signed 2-3 months earlier.

Accumulated in 8M/2023, Vietnam exported 1,209 thousand tons, only a slight increase compared to 0.5% over the same period, mainly thanks to the positive recovery of the Chinese market in July and August.

However, the market share of Vietnamese rubber in China in the first 8 months of the year decreased over the same period. Notably, in the last 2 years, Thailand has increased exports of HS4002 rubber. Accordingly, Thailand's market share of this type of rubber increased by nearly 9% (since July 2021), while Vietnam is losing market share in this strong type of rubber.
