[VI] RICE INDUSTRY REPORT - APRIL 2024

SUMMARY

Continuing its upward momentum in 2023, rice is one of Vietnam's most active export products in Q1-2024. Specifically, Q1 rice exports increased in both quantity and value. The average export price in Q1 increased by 24% over the same period.

The main growth driver comes from the fact that Vietnamese businesses have won 2⁄3 of Indonesia's 500,000-ton rice import package, and have completed deliveries in February & March 2024.

Besides the traditional ASEAN market, Vietnam is actively expanding into the Middle East and African markets. In addition, rice exports to the US market also recorded a record high in March.

Outlook: Vietnam's rice exports are still positive thanks to good demand and favorable prices. Especially in the total rice imports of the Philippines and Indonesia in Q1, the proportion of rice imported from Vietnam accounted for over 50%. However, there are still some factors that can hinder the increase in rice exports.
