SUMMARY
 
The industry's production & consumption figures in February 2023 showed clearer positive signs than in the previous 2 months. Steel production output in February reached the highest level in recent 8 months. Export volume in 2M/2023 increased by 8.1% over the same period in 2022, of which some markets had notable increases such as the EU, India, and Turkey. However, domestic consumption after Tet remains low. Generally in the first two months of the year, finished steel sales decreased by 26.9% over the same period in 2022, and decreased in most product groups.

Despite positive signals at the beginning of the year, the business prospects of enterprises in the industry are unlikely to increase dramatically in the first half of 2023 because domestic and export demand is forecast to remain weak; world steel price may maintain an uptrend in the next 1-1.5 months, and then keep stable (difficult to increase further due to the supply-demand balance in China, demand in US & EU is forecasted to be flat).
