SUMMARY
 
In 2022, the world steel industry has faced difficulties on both the demand and supply sides. The price of steel & related materials has continuously decreased since mid-April 2022 after nearly a year of strong increase before. Global steel demand in 2022 is also lower than the total manufacturing supply. Specifically, demand reached 1,796 million tons (down 2.3% compared to 2021), and production reached 1,879 million tons (down 4.2% compared to 2021).
 
The steel industry is one of the industries that soon fall into difficulties in 2022 (right from the middle of Q2), after a "sublimation" year in 2021. Domestic consumption slows, and exports plummet; while the world price of finished steel & raw materials also plummeted, making many businesses difficult due to high price inventory. Many steel enterprises have big holes. Even at the beginning of Q4/2022, many enterprises had to close some blast furnaces and reduce capacity.
 
According to the general opinion of domestic steel enterprises, the most difficult situation of the industry may have passed the peak, but the general situation of the industry in 1H-2023 still has many challenges.
