SUMMARY
 
In Q1/2023, both domestic and export fertilizer consumption remained weak, so both production and import volume in the quarter still decreased. Specifically, compared to Q1/2022, production decreased by 3.0%, imports decreased by 34%, exports decreased by 15.5% in volume, and decreased by nearly 41% in value.

Particularly in March 2023, export volume decreased by 16.2% compared to the previous month, and there was no clear sign of improvement. However, production output increased quite well compared to the previous month (up 16.4%). The reason for the increase is partly due to the higher number of working days, but it is also possible that some large manufacturing enterprises in the industry have received export orders and prepared goods to serve summer-autumn rice in the domestic market.
 
Domestic demand may improve further in Q2 during the summer-autumn rice planting season, and exports may also improve for some particular large exporters. However, the industry's overall outlook for the whole year may still be less optimistic in terms of both selling price and consumption volume.
