[VI] ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY REPORT 2022 & OUTLOOK 2023

SUMMARY

By the end of 2022, Vietnam's total installed power capacity will reach 77.8 thousand MW, an increase of 1,180 MW compared to 2021 and ranking first in the ASEAN region in terms of scale. In which, the total capacity of renewable energy sources slowed down after the previous two years of hot growth and reached 20,165 MW, accounting for nearly 26%.

While the installed capacity has increased rapidly, the electricity demand from 2020 to now has increased more slowly than the previous period.

According to the plan of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the total electricity output produced and imported in the whole system in 2023 is expected to be 284.5 billion kWh, up 6% compared to last year. CGM electricity prices in 2023 will be flat compared to 2022, assuming no significant geopolitical fluctuations to strongly impact gas price trends.
