VIETNAM MACRO AND INDUSTRY REPORT - 10/2021

SUMMARY

With the epidemic situation in the country lasting throughout Q3/2021, the main economic indicators in the quarter all decreased seriously. GDP in Q3/2021 grew negatively and GDP in 3Q narrowed compared to the same period in 2020. The total state budget revenue, in general, is 9M, although still increasing, and the central budget reserve expenditure in 2021 has been spent on epidemic prevention. Most of the construction works had to stop during the prolonged social distancing period, delaying the construction progress & disbursement of public investment capital. Businesses and people's lives are facing difficulties.

Accordingly, the State Bank still maintains the orientation of monetary easing and implements many measures/plans to support businesses. In September 2021, the money market continued to lower the VND deposit interest rate to the lowest level in many years. Circular 14/2021/TT-NHNN was issued amending and supplementing Circular 01/2020/TT-NHNN on the rescheduling of debt repayment, exemption, and reduction fees, keeping the debt group to support customers affected by the Covid-19 epidemic
