SUMMARY
 
Despite facing many difficulties in Q3, the overall business results of steel companies for the whole year were quite positive compared to many other manufacturing industries thanks to growth in both output and selling prices. Especially benefiting the most are enterprises that can produce HRC and galvanized steel enterprises.
 
Notably, 2021 is the first year the Vietnam Steel Industry recorded a trade surplus. For the first time, the output exceeded the import volume. Specifically, the export turnover of steel products in 2021 increased sharply by 124% compared to 2020, of which the output increased by 33%. This growth in export output is thanks to great contributions from Hoa Phat's Dung Quat project (HPG), Nghi Son Iron and Steel, and galvanized steel enterprises.
 
OVERALL AND STEEL PRICE MOVEMENT:
 
Strong fluctuations in 2021 and in general, the average price increases sharply compared to the 2020 price level.
- Iron ore prices increased in the last 2 months.
- Prices of HRC and construction steel in China inched up, while in the US prices of steel fell.
- Domestic steel prices almost follow world price movements.
